WANT TO PROTECT YOUR HEAD FROM THE SUN & NOT GIVE UP YOUR FAVORITE HAT, READ ON

Sundercover : We got you covered

A lot of people have a favorite hat that they turn to when they’re going to spend a day outside. While they may think that by wearing a hat they are protecting against long term skin damage and possible risks attributed to skin disease, many are wearing hats that do not actually provide significant protection against the harmful UV rays that lead to premature aging and skin cancer. There is a way, however, to get ahead of the possible consequences of spending time in the sun and protect your scalp and hair. By placing a Dermatologist approved Sundercover® UPF 50+ liner into your favorite hat, you can continue wearing it while also improving the sun protection for your head.

UNDERSTANDING UPF APPAREL

The surprise many hat-wearing patients express when diagnosed with skin cancer on their scalp is the reason Sundercover® was founded. While most of us have learned to focus on the SPF rating before putting on sunscreen, understanding your apparel's Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) before heading for a day outside is just as important. Although SPF is crucial to understanding the UVB protection of the sunscreen a person puts directly on their skin, UPF indicates how much UV radiation, both UVB and UVA, a fabric allows to reach your skin. While some fabrics provide a basic, first-level of protection against the sun, many fabrics typically found in hats such as cotton and linen do not provide the level of protection necessary for prolonged outdoor exposure. In order to provide a person with a protection rating of “Excellent” according to the UPF rating scale, your hat or clothing would need to have a UPF rating factor of 50+. At a rating of 50+, it is estimated that your skin will be protected from 98% or more of UV radiation. Unfortunately, unless you buy a hat that is specifically designed for sun protection, it is possible that your hat is not providing enough protection for your head. Since a hat’s Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) is dependent on fabric, color and weave, there is no telling how well your hat is protecting you from the sun without having it tested.

Luckily, at Sundercover®, we have created a product designed to help solve this problem. Within seconds, you will be able to transform your favorite baseball cap or hat into a top of the line sun protection hat. By simply inserting a Sundercover® UPF 50+ liner into your hat, you will know that your scalp is protected from at least 98% of harmful UV rays. In addition, the sweat wicking fabric provides comfort and protects the inside of your hat from sweat and dirt absorption. It is easily removed for washing and can extend the life of your go-to hat. So, the next time you wear your favorite hat to head out into the sun, be safe and be Sundercover®.
